The history of Transautogaz company, the Moldovan CNG (compressed natural gas) market leader, begins in 1985 when it was started the construction of CNG-1 filling stations in Chisinau. In May 1986, the first vehicle was fueled with compressed natural gas. The construction of CNG-2 filling stations was completed in December 1986.

Natural gas (methane) is a mixture of gases formed in the Earth interior during the anaerobic decomposition of organic substances. Natural gas is produced in the fields and transported through the gas transportation system to consumers. Natural gas is used as a motor fuel in compressed form in the Republic of Moldova.
